| 01 Jul 2021

Rosemary Kayess and Jackie Leach Scully from the UNSW Disability Innovation Institute have worked alongisde Therese Sands from Women with Disabilities Australia (WWDA) to produce a response to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability's issues paper on Rights and Attitudes.

The response includes over 20 recommendations to improve the rights of and attitudes towards people with disability in Australia, and provides detailed information about how negative attitudes towards disability lead to the ableism that allows for the abuse, neglect and exploitation of disabled people. It also notes that some of this violence, such as the denial of bodily autonomy, is still lawful.
